Request for Proposals: SpringBoard 2014 Director

Deadline for submissions is Monday, April 21, 2014

A core value of Cleveland Public Theatre is to support and nurture the development of new works of diverse style, discipline and creative processes by Northeast Ohio artists. Artists are welcome to apply for one or more of CPT’s development series.

SpringBoard seeks to nurture the growth of emerging and established directors, support the development of new scripts, and act as a catalyst for forming and deepening relationships between playwrights and directors. SpringBoard will invite the audience to play a part in the process through publicly performed staged readings and post-show discussions.

Series Logistics:

  • CPT selects 4-8 directors and asks them to choose an accepted script.
  • Directors will be part of the play selection process and will play an active role in selecting the script they will direct. Work on this process includes
      • Reading and assessing 10+ scripts
      • Attending up to four meetings to discuss scripts and work with other directors to make final selections.
  • Each director and playwright team is expected to have 4-6 rehearsals in the two weeks prior to their first showing and at least 2 rehearsals in the week between showings.
  • Directors will be expected to attend all rehearsals and engage in developmental discussions with directors and the series producers.
  • All directors are required to attend all other series readings.
  • SpringBoard is scheduled to take place either October or November 2014.
  • Directors will receive $200.

In selecting directors for SpringBoard we are hoping to form a team with diverse training and backgrounds. We are looking for directors interested in innovating and in developing new work. Because directors will need to accomplish a great deal of work in the selection process, we will be looking for hard working people who can get the job done.

We are not necessarily looking for the most experienced directors. We want to find directors that will truly benefit from being part of this series.
